Young groups of Moroccans want to take advantage of the atmosphere of change that many African neighbours have lived since the beginning of 2011. After Tunisia and Egypt, Moroccans want to demonstrate that changes are possible in a country that has high levels of corruption, big social differences and high rates of unemployment. With protesters themselves calling for peaceful evolution rather than revolution, the regime of King Mohamed VI is being invited to take the initiative. On February 20th, called "Day of the Dignity", 50,000 people demonstrated in many cities around the country. In Marrakesh and in Al-Hoceima (north of Morocco) some clashes took place after the end of the official demonstrations, late at night. Five people died, 128 were injured and 120 arrested.
